Areas work experiences
a. As a researcher:
- Essentially, I remained a researcher all through my carrier beginning JNU days in early seventies till the present date, spanning almost forty years of my active working life, conducting more than 35 studies in fields such as demography, issues in rural and agriculture development, investment specific monitoring and evaluation studies, project preparation and project appraisal and the like.The latest study that I completed for the Department of Planning, Government of Bihar relates to the understanding of land use efficiencies in Bihar: evidences and perspectives. Another study entitled constraints of trade and commerce in Bihar, prepared for Bihar Chambers of Commerce and Industries also deserves special mention here.
b. As a trainer:
- In addition, I also provided services as a guest faculty to fellow bankers at BIRD, Lukhnow, NBSC Lukhnow, LBSNAA, Massauri, Bihar State Cooperative Bank Training College, and a few others in areas of project appraisal and evaluation of agriculture and rural development projects as also growth scenario of Indian agriculture.
c. As a teacher:
- After retirement from Nabard I joined Bihar Central University, Patna as a guest faculty member to teach in subject area of agrarian economy, Project Economics, and monetary economics to post graduate students.
d. As a Board member:
- I represented NABARD in Boards of various RRBs and Co-operative Banks in Bihar.
e. As a task force member:
- From time to time I also represented NABARD in various task force committees relating to capital formation and rural and agricultural credit as formed by Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India.
f. As a Planner:
- Nabard pioneered in preparation of investment and area specific credit plans from time to time in rural and agriculture sector. As an economist I remained central in most of such teams. In addition, one important planning work that I accomplished for the Planning Commission related to preparation of Makhana Project for Madhubani district in Bihar which subsequently became the guiding source for Shaktisudha to ground their Makhana project in and around the area.
g. As a policy initiator:
- Nabard would offer specific policy suggestions to supplement budgetary initiatives of the Government of India in the realm of agriculture and rural sector. I took lead in many of such policy initiatives as suggested by Nabard.
h. As Development activist:
- In my post retirement period I started my own NGO initiative with the help of some local activists in Bihar for rehabilitation and rejuvenation of Kushaha flood victims and also towards understanding the nature and intensity of flood menaces in Kosi region.
In addition, I also published a number of books and articles from time to time on specific subject areas, mostly relating to Bihar.
